The following Committtees organize and plan events for the Loker School.  Volunteer to Chair or help out on any of these committees by contacting Tracey O'Rourke or Nell Getz.

Exterior Bulletin Board: Update the bulletin board outside the school monthly

Flyer/Newsletter Copy Captain/Misc: Do you have sporadic time available, but want to be involved in the school at your convenience.  Assist the PTO by making copies of various communications to be placed in the teacher boxes.

Book Closet Organizer: Are you extremely organized?  Is your available time sporadic?  Are you interested in volunteering in the school?  Please consider helping out our Curriculum Specialist 3-4 times a year to organize the school’s book closet.

Faculty/Staff Appreciation: We all know how hard the faculty and staff work at our school. Several times throughout the year the PTO takes the time to show our appreciation with a start of school breakfast and end of year luncheon as well as in other various ways. The Appreciation committee also coordinates, and sets up any retirement parties and end of year gifts. Please consider baking for these much appreciated events.

Grounds and Courtyard: Do you have a green thumb? Help keep our school gardens beautiful with maintaining our front garden and courtyard with basic garden needs; planting, weeding, raking, watering, etc. A great opportunity if you want to be involved but at your convenience.

Library/Media Staff: Work with our librarian on a weekly or bi-weekly basis during school hours, assisting with check out or restacking books.

Lice Busters: Screen for head lice. Done in the morning after school vacations.

Room Parents:  Work with your child’s teacher and other parents to support the teacher and coordinate volunteers for classroom and PTO events.

School Pictures: Coordinate the school picture effort. Volunteers (2 needed) receive a free photo package.

Community Outreach

 

 

 

Cultural Enrichment Events: Help to bring a variety of enrichment programs to our children ranging from large “all school” performances to smaller grade-specific programs.  Representatives from each of the schools work together to research and preview potential artists and then coordinate the performances with the schools.

*Most performances are on Friday, so this is a great position for someone who works part-time or from home on Fridays.

 

Green Team: The Green Team is a Wayland schools’ organization building on a movement to not only promote green and sustainable schools and communities, but to inspire our students to become better stewards of the planet. The volunteer will help coordinate internal “green” initiatives including paper and plastic recycling, Earth Day and other activities, educational presentations, and work with other committees (i.e. health and wellness, Student Council, and other Wayland schools) to promote walk to school days, No Idling, ‘Green weeks”, the use of reusable containers, etc. This person will also work with teachers to encourage more “stewardship” in the classrooms.

Gift Your Child: Coordinate and manage the PTO’s primary fundraising campaign, in which 100% of donations go straight towards supporting the PTO’s programs and events.

New Family Resource: Plan new family socials, including Newcomers Coffee in the fall, and help new families feel welcome.

METCO Liaison:  Coordinate METCO Family Friends Network!  The goal of our Family Friends program is to support relationships between our Wayland and Boston families.  The network works to connect families in both communities by attending events together (for example the Back to School picnic taking place at HH this year or the MLK Dinner), inviting friends over for playdates for which buses are provided to and from Wayland and Boston, inviting Boston friends to stay after school when there are evening activities and meeting their parents at the event.
